V I D E O E R R O R S
Some users have experienced problems with video hardware addressing.
I have made numerous changes to accommodate for this problem.
Previously, using the parameters of /C or /M only affected the colors
chosen for display. This is no longer the case.
Scanner Buff! has logic to automatically detect MDA, CGA, EGA, and VGA
hardware. Not all video cards are completely industry compatible and
this makes it difficult to correct for. For example, your video card
is VGA, but you have its default emulation set to MDA. Although most
programs will function correctly, some will not because your video
card is only emulating another mode. When using graphics this can
cause problems requiring you to change your default mode.
v3.51 has parameters of /C and /M. When using /C, Scanner Buff! will
read your video card and if it determines that it is any type of color
card it will force your video mode to 3, or CGA, and then attempt to
address the screen directly. If you desire monochrome and use the /M
parameter Scanner Buff! will again look at your video card. If a MDA
adapter is found your video mode will be changed to 7, Mono.
Both of these video modes are forced when the parameter is used. You
may not even need to use one of them. Video cards are notorious for
deviating from 'standards', and this is the only reason you now have
an option. Most users will be able to operate Scanner Buff! without
any parameter being required.
Users with video problems, such as squigly lines, blank screens,
flashing, etc., are encouraged to contact me. I will need to know the
type of video card (manufacturer) you are using, its default mode
(CGA, EGA, VGA), and the type of monitor being used. I may be reached
